How is this Boston Shaker different from the ones you see on Amazon or the famous Koriko?
After years of working with bartenders, we addressed the concerns they had with their beloved main tool, the Boston Shaker. Alambika opened the Alkademie in 2019 to be closer to the operations of bartenders. We hosted top bartenders for weeks at a time, observing, interviewing, and listening to their feedback as they worked in this mixologist lab. The Alka line of barware is the result of bartenders expressing their needs and us acting on them.
Size of Tins: The large tin is 28oz, and the small (aka cheater) is 18oz. This leaves plenty of room for 2 cocktails and foam to develop while making a sour.
Welded base: It's common to see shakers with tape at their base due to insufficient soldering. The 'Alka Le Pro' features a thicker weighted base, welded 360 degrees all around. This ensures the base remains secure, eliminating the need for unsightly tape.
Ease of unlocking: This is where a lot of the magic happens. Bartenders often end up with elbow or palm pain from repeatedly dealing with shakers that stick together. Very thick shakers, while robust, cannot be squeezed to break the vacuum seal. Thin shakers are easy to unlock, but become wavy quickly and feel cheap. The Alka Le Pro Shaker has a thick sturdy cheater tin (0.8mm) and a thinner big tin (0.6mm), allowing for easy squeezing and unlocking. It unlocks with a simple squeeze—no need to hammer it on a counter, yet it is thick enough to be heavy-duty.
